North Tenerife

North Tenerife covers the greener, more rugged side of the island, where the trade winds bring more cloud and rainfall than the arid south. This has long shaped the region as one of terraced farmland, banana plantations and traditional villages, in contrast to the resort-driven coastline elsewhere on the island.

The landscape here tends to be steeper and more dramatic, with cliffs meeting the Atlantic and roads winding through valleys and old settlements. It is a part of Tenerife better suited to those interested in scenery, agriculture and local life than to the beach-and-sun holiday format found in the south.
