Puntallana
Puntallana
Puntallana lies on the north-eastern coast of La Palma, within the region of the same name, where the terrain drops steeply from the island’s central heights towards the Atlantic. The landscape here is typical of this side of the island: green, well-watered slopes cut by deep ravines, with small hamlets scattered along the winding coastal road rather than gathered into a single dense centre.
Much of the area’s character comes from its terraced hillsides, once given over to traditional crops, and from the dramatic meeting of cliff and sea along the shoreline. Views open frequently towards the ocean as the road threads between ridges, giving the area a quiet, rural feel distinct from the more built-up resort zones elsewhere on La Palma.
As a district, Puntallana is better suited to those exploring the island’s greener north-east than to visitors seeking concentrated sights, offering instead a sense of the everyday rhythms and scenery of rural La Palma.
