El Cotillo

El Cotillo sits on the northern coast of Fuerteventura, a former fishing settlement that has kept much of its low-rise, unhurried character even as it has become known further afield. Whitewashed houses and small harbourside streets give the village a quiet, salt-worn feel, and the sea remains a constant presence, shaping both the local rhythm and the reason many visitors come here.

The surrounding coastline is the area’s defining feature, with rugged volcanic rock giving way in places to pale, sheltered lagoons and open beaches favoured by swimmers and surfers alike. Inland, the landscape is typical of Fuerteventura’s north: dry, open, and sparsely built, reinforcing El Cotillo’s sense of being a coastal outpost rather than a resort town.

As part of the island’s North region, El Cotillo offers a more understated alternative to the busier southern resorts, with its appeal resting on natural surroundings and a relaxed, small-scale atmosphere rather than organised attractions.
