Corralejo
Corralejo sits on the northern tip of Fuerteventura, a former fishing settlement that has grown into the island’s principal resort town while keeping a working harbour, from which boats still cross to the neighbouring island of Lobos. Its streets mix low-rise apartments, restaurants and shops with older buildings closer to the seafront, and the town serves as a base for exploring both the coast and the island’s interior.
Immediately south of the town lies the Corralejo Dunes, a protected natural area of wind-blown sand and scrub that stretches along the shoreline and inland, giving the area its distinctive golden backdrop and a long, open beach popular with walkers and sunbathers. Within this stretch of coast, Playa del Burro is one of the more sheltered spots, favoured for swimming and watersports thanks to its calmer waters compared with the more exposed dune beaches nearby.
Together, the town and its dunes give Corralejo a dual character: a lively, service-oriented resort on one side and a stark, protected natural landscape on the other, with the beaches acting as the link between the two.
