Roque de los Muchachos
Roque de los Muchachos
Roque de los Muchachos marks the highest point on La Palma, a rugged summit rising above the vast Caldera de Taburiente and forming the rim of one of the island’s most striking volcanic depressions. The area is remote and elevated, reached by a winding mountain road that climbs well above the cloud line, offering a landscape of bare rock, sparse vegetation and expansive views over the caldera’s steep walls and forested slopes below.
Because of its altitude and exceptionally clear night skies, the summit is closely associated with astronomical observation, and its position above the typical cloud layer gives visitors a sense of standing apart from the rest of the island. Beyond the viewpoint itself, the area remains largely untouched, valued chiefly for the sweeping panoramas it affords across La Palma’s interior and, on clear days, towards neighbouring islands.
