Tazacorte

Tazacorte lies on the western coast of La Palma, in a region known for its dramatic cliffs and long hours of sunshine compared with the rest of the island. The town gives its name to the wider municipality, which spreads from the coast up through a landscape given over largely to banana cultivation, one of the traditional mainstays of the local economy.

Down at sea level, the settlement is closely tied to its small harbour, a hub for local fishing and a popular spot to watch the sun set over the Atlantic. The steep road down from the plateau above offers striking views over the plantations and the coastline, underlining how the town’s character has been shaped by the meeting of volcanic terrain and the sea.
