El Médano
El Médano sits on the south coast of Tenerife, in a stretch of coastline known for its exposure to steady Atlantic winds. Unlike the larger, more built-up resorts of the south, it has grown around a working fishing settlement, giving it a more relaxed, low-rise character than its neighbours.
The town is best known as a hub for windsurfing and kitesurfing, drawn by the reliable breeze and open sandy beaches that line the shore. Cafés, surf shops and casual seafront bars reflect this sporty, informal atmosphere, and the pace of life feels noticeably calmer than in the island’s larger tourist centres.
Beyond the beach itself, El Médano’s appeal lies in its unpretentious, community feel and its direct relationship with the sea and wind, making it a distinct pocket of the southern coast rather than a conventional resort destination.
