Icod de los Vinos
Icod de los Vinos sits on Tenerife’s northern coast, within a stretch of the island shaped by vineyards, banana terraces and the long slopes running down from Mount Teide. The town’s name recalls its long association with wine-growing, and the surrounding countryside still carries the terraced fields and rural character typical of this part of the North.
The old quarter is known for its traditional Canarian architecture, with balconied houses and narrow streets typical of the island’s historic northern towns. Icod de los Vinos is also widely recognised for its ancient dragon tree, one of the most emblematic natural landmarks on Tenerife, which has long drawn visitors to the town.
As a base, Icod de los Vinos offers a quieter, more agricultural counterpart to the resorts of the south, with its position on the north coast giving easy reach to neighbouring towns and the wooded, volcanic landscapes that characterise this side of the island.
