Caldera Blanca

📍

Caldera Blanca

Caldera Blanca lies in the interior of Lanzarote, within the wider expanse of volcanic terrain that dominates the island’s central-western reaches. It takes its name from the huge, pale-toned volcanic crater that forms the area’s defining feature, one of the largest such formations on Lanzarote. The surrounding landscape is stark and open, shaped by old lava flows and volcanic ash that stretch across the terrain in muted greys and browns.

The area is largely undeveloped, with the crater itself the main point of interest, reached on foot across paths that cross the surrounding malpaís, or badlands, of hardened lava. There is little in the way of settlement here, and the appeal lies chiefly in the raw geology and the wide, uninterrupted views across the volcanic interior towards the coast and neighbouring hills.

Caldera Blanca offers a quieter, more elemental side of Lanzarote, away from the island’s resort areas, where the scale and texture of the volcanic landscape can be appreciated at close range.
