Puerto del Carmen

Puerto del Carmen is Lanzarote’s largest resort town, stretched along the island’s east coast where a former fishing settlement has grown into the main hub for visitors to the island. The heart of the old harbour still gives a sense of the place before tourism arrived, while the long promenade running from there links a string of beaches, restaurants and shops that make up the modern resort.

Playa Grande is the town’s principal beach, a broad stretch of sand that draws most of the sunbathing crowds and gives easy access to the promenade’s amenities. Closer to the old harbour, Playa Chica is smaller and more sheltered, its calm, enclosed waters making it a popular spot for swimming and snorkelling.

As a base, Puerto del Carmen combines its beach-focused daytime rhythm with a busy evening scene along the seafront, making it one of the more developed and accessible parts of Lanzarote’s east.
