Yaiza

Yaiza sits inland on the southwestern side of Lanzarote, on the fringes of the volcanic terrain that dominates this part of the island. It is best known as the gateway to Timanfaya National Park, whose contorted lava fields and cinder cones lie within the municipality and stand as one of the most striking volcanic landscapes in the Canary Islands. The surrounding countryside carries the imprint of past eruptions, with dark, undulating malpaís stretching towards the coast.

Beyond the park itself, the area extends towards the shoreline, where the coastline reveals further evidence of volcanic activity. El Golfo, with its Charco de los Clicos lagoon, offers a striking contrast of dark sand, black cliffs and green-tinged water, while Los Hervideros nearby is a rugged natural area where the Atlantic surges through eroded lava channels and blowholes. Together these sites give Yaiza a landscape shaped almost entirely by fire and sea.

As a base, Yaiza serves travellers keen to explore this volcanic terrain, offering easy access to both the inland park and the coastal formations without straying far from its rural, sparsely built surroundings.
