Teror

Teror sits inland among the hills of northern Gran Canaria, a town whose historic core has long served as a focal point for the island’s religious life. At its heart stands the Basilica del Pino, the church dedicated to the island’s patroness, the Virgin of the Pine, which draws visitors and pilgrims from across Gran Canaria and lends the town much of its character and significance.

Around the basilica, Teror Old Town preserves a distinctive Canarian townscape, with wooden balconies, tiled roofs and narrow streets that reflect a building style typical of the island’s older settlements. Wandering these streets gives a sense of a settlement shaped as much by devotion as by daily life, with the church square acting as a natural gathering point.

Beyond the town, the surrounding Teror Mountains provide a green, hilly backdrop typical of the island’s northern interior, offering a contrast to the coastal landscapes found elsewhere on Gran Canaria.
