Tejeda
Tejeda is a mountainous inland district of Gran Canaria centred on its whitewashed village and the volcanic landmarks of Roque Nublo and Roque Bentayga.
Tejeda sits at the mountainous heart of Gran Canaria, a district shaped by deep ravines, pine-clad slopes and the volcanic rock formations that define the island’s interior. The village of Tejeda itself clings to the hillside, its whitewashed houses and narrow streets forming a natural base for exploring the surrounding peaks, with almond blossom bringing colour to the terraced land in season.
The area is best known for its dramatic viewpoints. Cruz de Tejeda marks a historic crossroads of old mountain paths and remains a natural starting point for routes into the highlands, while Roque Bentayga rises as one of the most striking volcanic outcrops on the island, long associated with the pre-Hispanic Guanche population. Nearby, the towering Roque Nublo is perhaps Gran Canaria’s most recognisable natural monument, a rock pinnacle visible from much of the island and a focal point for walkers drawn to its summit paths.
Together these sites give Tejeda a strong sense of altitude and openness, with wide views stretching across the caldera towards the coast on clear days. It is an area defined less by any single attraction than by the wider landscape of rock, pine forest and village life that ties Cruz de Tejeda, Roque Bentayga, Roque Nublo and the village together.
