Playa Blanca
Playa Blanca sits on the southern tip of Lanzarote, facing across the straits towards Fuerteventura. Once a modest fishing settlement, it has grown into the island’s main southern resort, its promenade and harbour lined with the kind of low-rise development that keeps pace with the coastline rather than dominating it. The town’s appeal rests largely on its run of beaches, which stretch from the built-up centre out towards the wilder, undeveloped shoreline to the east.
Within the town itself, Playa Dorada and Playa Flamingo provide sheltered, family-friendly sands close to the shops and restaurants, while Playa Mujeres offers a quieter alternative nearby. Playa del Pozo lies within easy reach as a smaller, more low-key spot. Further along the coast, the Playa Papagayo stretch is the best known of the area’s beaches, a series of coves backed by low cliffs and scrubby volcanic terrain that feels far removed from the resort core.
Together these beaches give Playa Blanca its character as a coastal base geared towards sun and sea, with the calmer waters of this southern shore making it a popular counterpoint to the more wind-exposed coasts elsewhere on the island.
