Privacy Policy
At CanaryIslandsAtlas.com, we take both website security and visitor privacy seriously. This page explains what data we handle, how we protect the platform, and the choices you have. We’ve tried to keep it plain rather than legalistic.
Privacy-Friendly Analytics
We use our own privacy-friendly, anonymous analytics to understand how the site is used. It runs on our own infrastructure — no third-party analytics service is involved.
Our analytics does not use tracking cookies, does not identify individual visitors, and does not share data with anyone. We generate a short-lived, random session ID to measure visits and page performance. That ID cannot be linked to a person and is used only for essential functions such as counting sessions and improving the content.
Because this data is fully anonymised and strictly necessary for the site to function, no consent banner is required under the GDPR or the ePrivacy Directive for this analytics.
The Contact Form
If you use our contact form, we receive the name, email address and message you submit, so we can reply. To reduce spam, the form also records your IP address and browser details at the moment of sending.
These messages are delivered to our own inbox by email. We keep them only as long as needed to handle your enquiry, and we don’t use them for marketing or pass them to anyone else.
Hotel & Booking Links
Some links to hotels and accommodation are affiliate links. If you book after clicking one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It helps keep the atlas free.
Important for your privacy: once you click through to a booking partner, you’re on their website, under their rules. Those partners typically set their own cookies and may track your activity to attribute the booking. We don’t control that, and it only happens if you choose to click a booking link — browsing the atlas itself sets none of it.
Embedded Content
Some pages show maps or other embedded content served from other websites. Embedded content behaves as if you had visited that other site directly — those sites may collect data about you, set their own cookies, and monitor your interaction with the embed. This only applies to the specific embedded element, not the atlas as a whole.
Where Your Data Is Stored
Our website and its data are hosted on servers located outside the European Union. If you are in the EU or EEA, this means your data (for example, a contact-form message) may be transferred to and stored in a country outside the EEA.
Where such transfers happen, we rely on appropriate safeguards recognised under the GDPR, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, to protect your information to an equivalent standard.
Responsible Disclosure
- Email us at info@canaryislandsatlas.com
- Include steps to reproduce, browser details, and screenshots if helpful
- Please hold off on public disclosure until we’ve reviewed and resolved it
We aim to respond to security reports within 7 days. Thank you for helping keep the site secure.
Your Rights
If you’re in the EU or EEA, the GDPR gives you the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, and to object to certain processing. In practice, the only personal data we’re likely to hold is a contact-form message you’ve sent us.
To make any such request, email info@canaryislandsatlas.com. We’ll respond within the timeframe the law requires. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority.
