Embalse de las Peñitas
Embalse de las Peñitas is a small highland reservoir in Fuerteventura’s central ravine system, known for its volcanic cliffs, terraced terrain and quiet inland atmosphere. Its position within the Peñitas ravine makes it one of the island’s most distinctive inland landscapes.
Embalse de las Peñitas lies within a narrow ravine south of Betancuria, a small reservoir surrounded by steep volcanic cliffs and dry highland terrain. The area forms part of the Peñitas ravine system, one of Fuerteventura’s most characteristic inland landscapes.

The terrain consists of terraced slopes, scattered vegetation and exposed rock formations shaped by erosion. The reservoir itself occupies a natural basin within the ravine, creating a rare inland water feature in an otherwise dry environment.
The surrounding cliffs rise sharply above the valley floor, giving the area a dramatic profile compared to the softer terrain of nearby Vega de Río Palmas. The contrast between the reservoir’s calm surface and the rugged volcanic walls enhances the site’s atmosphere.

Embalse de las Peñitas forms part of the inland route connecting Betancuria, Vega de Río Palmas and the western highlands near Ajuy. Its combination of volcanic geology, terraced terrain and quiet highland setting makes it one of Fuerteventura’s most distinctive inland features.
